Equine Podiatry Services

Specialized care for horse hooves, ensuring optimal health and performance through expert podiatric techniques.

Preparing your horse for a consultation
  • Give yourself enough time before the appointment to bring your horse in and relax.

  • Feed, water, and thoroughly clean and dry your horses' legs and feet.

  • During the trim you need to stand with your horse, to help them remain relaxed and balanced.

  • Make sure your horse is calm and confident in a safe place to be trimmed. It is impossible to work optimally and safely in bad weather conditions. If necessary I will re-schedule if you do not have somewhere indoors to trim in the case of bad weather.

  • Horses are social animals, having a friend nearby can be very useful in helping a horse relax. If you know your horse will be the only horse in, or if other will be being turned out please try to arrange your appointment for a more settled time.

  • It is well worth taking time with foals and young horses building confidence in haltering, leading, foot and leg handling at an early age. Before a hoofcare appointment you should make sure your horse is confident to have all of their hooves picked up, moved and held and you should continue to do this between appointments. We will then be able to ensure that your horse has a positive experience. I am experienced working with young, inexperienced and nervous horses, but I will not trim a horse that is very scared and behaving dangerously.

Solo. Before top. After bottom.

1 year between photographs. Showing how much a barefoot can change once the shoes have been removed.

This is Solo's hoof, and its these hooves that set me off in this journey. He is now sound and rock crunching!

Zorro. Bottom before. After top.

1 year between photographs. Whilst Zorro was already barefoot, he didn't have very much depth in the digital cushion in his feet, which meant his heels were weak.

He has much better posture now he has better angles in his hind feet.

TJ. Bottom before. After top.

8 weeks between photographs. Whilst TJ was sound, he had weak digital cushions and his frogs had prolapsed and were sitting lower than his walls.

This is normally able to change really quickly once the barefoot hoof function is restored.

Prim. Bottom before. After top.

4 months between photographs. Prim was always sore after a trim, which is why she came to me. She was another one that had heel height, but very weak digital cushions.

With a careful exercise plan, revised feeding - which included gut support and some carefully thought out trimming we have been able to make some really nice improvements in a fairly short amount of time.
